What is a House ConcertA House Concert is more than just a hired musician providing live background music for a party. Rather, it is an intimate gathering at your home of family and friends who come together to enjoy a featured musical performer, usually a singer/songwriter. Susan’s House Concerts generally draw around fifteen to thirty guests, depending on the size of the home, and is comprised of two forty-minute sets with a short intermission break. An admission fee is usually collected in advance, or at the door, by the host. Because the focus is on the music, food should only be served at the conclusion of the concert. If only refreshments are being offered, they can be served before, during the break and after the performance. Simplicity is the key. The goal is for everyone to enjoy the show, especially the host. There is no need to rearrange your whole home since the concept is to “feel at home". All you need is a few extra chairs, some big pillows and some floor space. Provide an outlet for your performer, (Susan uses a small PA system), a corner for the "stage" and let the concert begin! Unlike organized, public House Concerts, which mainly book established acts, a private House Concert gives an unfamiliar songwriter the opportunity to support their art though live performances. As the host, you help an unknown musician build their fan base so he or she can continue writing and recording original music. Best of all, you will fill your home and heart with the music of someone you know, or will get to know, as the private House Concert is a very intimate and memorable experience |
